SCHOOL’S ANNUAL AND DAILY SCHEDULES

 

 

The annual schedule, as required by the Saudi Arabian government, has increased in recent years to either seventeen or eighteen weeks of study in each semester (usually seventeen in one semester and eighteen in the other), including the time allotted for final examinations. Ten to fourteen-day holidays are currently given for each Eid (Ramadan and Hajj), and one week holidays are given between the two semesters and in the middle of the second semester.

 

The daily schedules in the school vary slightly according to the age groups but all students should expect to be in school by 7:15. Kindergarten students leave at 12:30 while older students are out between 2:15 and 2:30. Dismissal time may be later for the secondary students in the new international program. All students have at least two recesses during the school day during which they have time to eat, play and pray.

 

The boys’ school and the elementary girls’ school usually have eight 40-minute periods per day. The girls’ intermediate and secondary levels usually have nine periods per day, as will the boys with the new international program.

 

The total direct instructional time provided each year in hours and days is as follows:

» For Pre-Kg & Kg : 17wk/ semester, 5 days/wk, 6 periods/day, 40 min/period, 170 days /year, 1020 periods/year.

» For girls’ and boys’ elementary (1 -5): 17wk/ semester, 5 days/wk, 8 periods/day, 40 min/period,170 days /year, 1360 periods/year.

» For boys’ intermediate & secondary : 16wk/ semester , 5 day/wk , 8 period/day, 40 min/period , 160 days/year, 1280 periods/year.

» For girls’ intermediate & secondary: 16wk/ semester , 5day/wk , 9 period/day,

40 min/period, 160 days/year, 1440 periods/year.

» When the international program begins, both the boys and the girls at the

intermediate and secondary level will have 9 periods per day.
